Turbofarmer
Today's Turbofarmer range has 14 variants, with engines up to 140HP and capacities as high as 4.1 tonnes. It's all about choice with Merlo:
Lift Height
There are two lift heights. 7m machines have a two-section boom. 10m machines actually lift to 9.7m, using a unique three-section boom extended and retracted with a cable mechanism. This offers great speed and smoothness, whilst minimising the parasitic weight of the structure.
Both boom styles protect the mechanism internally, so there is nothing to damage on site.
Engine Power
All Turbofarmers use a Deutz Tier III turbocharged engine. There are three possible horsepowers - 102HP, 120HP and 140HP. 102HP is fine for most farm applications, but 140HP certainly gives a little more 'zing' on the silage clamp!
For many farmers, the newly-introduced 120HP engine has been an excellent compromise, offering more power for towing, in particular.
Fixed or sideshift front axle
Unusually, Merlo design and build their own axles in-house. This gives us the freedom to offer two different styles. The most popular is a fixed front axle, which offers a superb ground clearance under its drop-portal design.
Uniquely to Merlo, the sideshift axle permits an integral sideshifter and frame levelling. This means that placing loads up high or onto a truck is much easier and load capacity is maintained to a greater height, as the load can be lifted perfectly vertically.
All UK Turbofarmers have Locking Differentials as standard on both front and rear axles.
Suspension
Fixed axle models offer the option of Boom Suspension (BSS), which reduces pitching whilst travelling. Merlo machines have naturally good pitch stability anyway, of course! The sideshift front axle can be fitted with a full Active Suspension (EAS), which gives even better protection against road shocks.
Load-sensing hydraulics
The simplest Turbofarmers use a gear pump hydraulic system. It's simple and rugged. More complex models use one of two piston pump driven Load-sensing system(LS). These offer a greater flow (150 lpm) to power attachments more efficiently. They also provide smoother, more efficient control.
But no choice
Sorry, no choice on some of the important Turbofarmer features! They have big cabs and fantastic visibility - farmers love the compactness and manoeuvrability of the Turbofarmer.
All Merlo farm handlers machines share a common feature - the hydrostatic transmission. Merlo is the world's leading manufacturer of telehandlers with hydrostatic transmission and has built an experience second to none. Offering ease of use, precision and instant braking, these are the transmissions of the future! There is, however, the option of a higher ratio low range - giving a 16kph maximum speed instead of the standard 11 kph.
