Somerset Family Farm Put The New Holland TH7.42 Elite Telehandler To The Test

Peter House and his two sons, David and Mark, run a 1000 acre arable and beef farm in Somerset. Livestock includes 100 pedigree breeding cows and 220 beef cattle. They are also involved in contracting services.

For many years, P&J House & Sons have been loyal New Holland customers which they put down to "reliability and good back-up service". Their New Holland fleet currently consists of four tractors, a CX5.90 combine harvester, a small square baler and a TH telehandler. In 2000 their local New Holland dealership arranged a telehander demo and they have been using New Holland telehandlers ever since, most recently acquiring a New Holland TH7.42 Elite from the new TH telehandler range in 2019.

As an all-rounder, the TH7.42 Elite is put to good use feeding cattle, loading dung, stacking bales and handling grain. Peter House explains that: "going from a tractor and loader to a telehandler has changed workload for us. The telehandler increases output and manoeuvrability on the farm for us".

The House family have many favourite features on the new TH7.42 Elite. Mark House says: "The depressurisation button by the headlights is really good, particularly when stopping all the time". The external pressure release switch allows operators to switch attachments quickly and easily outside the cab. He adds "the reversible fan works well as it keeps the radiator clean". The main engine radiator fan reverses every 6 minutes, blowing debris and dust from the engine cooling package, intercooler and air coolers. David House enjoys the added comfort of eight vents in the large cab: "the air conditioning is good especially when stacking hay bales", also adding that the LED light package is a must. The new LED light option which can produce up to 25,000 lumens of combined lighting power, effectively turning night into day, thereby increasing productivity and safety.

The whole House team have been impressed with "responsive transmission" - the TH Elite models feature the new 6x3 transmission with 3 modes; manual, semi-auto and full-auto) - and found the hydraulics "quick and easy to push boom out".
